This summer, Eglinton Avenue West was transformed into a vintage car lover’s dream. On Saturday, July 22nd, 2023, The Eglinton Way BIA hosted the Dream Wheels On Eglinton event, a vintage car show and street festival that brought the community together in a celebration of classic automotive beauty.
The event showcased an impressive array of classic cars, hot rods, muscle cars, race cars, and motorcycles. But it wasn’t just about the vehicles. The festival also featured a marketplace, live music, kids activities, and a vintage costume contest. The highlight of the day was undoubtedly the Best of Classics Awards Ceremony, where the finest vintage vehicles were recognized.
Dream Wheels On Eglinton was more than just a car show. It was a community event, organized in partnership with Toronto Hot Rod Kulture and Road Reapers Car Club, and supporting The Hospital for Sick Children. It was a day to celebrate the past, support local businesses, and come together as a community.
One of the unique aspects of the event was the vintage-style contest. Participants donned their best vintage fashion for a chance to win up to $150. It was a fun way to engage the community and add an extra layer of nostalgia to the event.
As the day came to a close, awards were handed out in various categories, including Best in Classic Cars, Best in Bikes, Best Chopper, and Best Hotrod, among others. Each award was a testament to the love and dedication that goes into maintaining these classic machines.
Although I was not present at the event, the buzz around it was palpable, and I could hear the music and the activity from my house (you could have probably hear it from all the way down at Bloor). The Dream Wheels On Eglinton event was more than just a car show. It was a celebration of a bygone era, a community gathering, and a testament to the simple joys in life.
If you’re a fan of classic cars or just looking for a fun day out, keep an eye out for next year’s event. From what I’ve heard, it’s an experience you won’t want to miss!
