On September 18, 2022, I ran my first 10k marathon.
I heard about Terry Fox while studying for Canadian Citizenship (proudly since 2022) and I’ve admired his determination. In 2022 I also started running more frequently – I used to do the Kay Gardner beltline since 2018 but with pauses. And since I’ve seen an ad saying there’s a run 80% of it consists of exactly the same trail I do every day, I said why not?
The weather was beautiful; it showed signs of showers, and if I’m not mistaken it did rain in the early morning. But overall, it was perfect. And there were some emotions going on, as I lost my father and my uncle to cancer.
I passed by Canada Upper Collage many times but have never been inside to admire their nice fields and tracks.
I run 5km every day (almost) so I said I’ll do just that but I’ve noticed that I could easily go for the entire 10k (and was a little embarrassed, to be honest, that some older folks were doing the 10k) so I said to myself – self, it’s not that much. And yes, I saw much passing by me – I passed by them later on. And I was not within the first ones to finish – but I’ve finished, and I had more in me. Running makes me realize how much we can achieve. Having a purpose keeps us going. Terry Fox is an inspiration.

P.S. – after the marathon, while almost home, I saw the classic car show at the Eglinton’s Way Farmer’s Market.
