Today marks the beginning of a new editorial series. I’ve challenged myself to start moving forward. I’ve debated if they should be weekly, bi-weekly or monthly – I tend to go with the latest, but I also remind myself that I need to get out of my comfort zone and should aim for weekly. Not making any promises here…

Today I had my first run of spring on the Kay Gardner trail. It also coincided with the Toronto Marathon that I didn’t go for because registration was closed when I decided I wanted to do it. I saw some canopies with the official Toronto logo at the trail entrance, but I didn’t stop to look what were they about – did the marathon go through there and it was an info point? Was there something else going on?

Apparently, it was because, on my way toward Bathurst, I saw a lot of – I assume volunteers – that were cleaning the sides of the trail. The trail is not dirty, and it doesen’t have litter, so they were removing old leaves, branches, and stumps or potentially plating some small plants. I didn’t stop to pay attention because it started moderately raining.

Rain – once of the reasons only today I had my first spring run on the trail – it gets dirty, so I prefer the track next to the school toward Bathurst on the other side of the Jewish cemetery – after almost two years of running there, I still don’t know what that school is called. I can probably Google it, but that’s a topic for another article.

So, spring, again. And editorials on this website. How long? Aiming for 100 words. 5 or 600 will do well as well. About?

While Forest Hill, of course. What’s hot, what’s opening, what’s closing down, where to eat, drink, have a great time. For example, Rimini is a restaurant that’s been around for a year or so, but only last month I’ve tried it. It’s smaller than I expected (not sure if there’s an upstairs part); very elegant, and the food was great. It used to be another restaurant that I never had a chance to try.

Across the street, there’s a new tattoo parlour about to open.

Oh, and probably the most important updates? Some of the constructions are going away, and Eglinton Boulevard is opening up. And it’s really big. You can easily turn a car around on the sidewalk, whereas in other places (like downtown), there’s room for a single person both ways.

Last but not least, we have two new landmarks.

One is a statue of a dog (could it be a vizsla?) holding a pink bag in his mouth that says Eglinton Way. It’s next to a bank that’s in front of the 32 bus station with Elmstope Ave. The dog seems happy and delivers the bag as well. According to The Eglinton Way‘s website, the name of the statue is “Fetch” and it was created by an artist with the name of William Hung. Now that I know his website, I’ll be further exploring his creations.

The other one is at the gas station at Eglinton and Avenue – on Avenue – and I don’t think it has been more than one month (as of this writing). According to the same site (Eglinton Way), the name of that one is “All I Have,” and it was created by Soheyl Bastami. I love what the artist says about his creation.

And to be honest, we actually got three sculptures if you count the one in front of the Rimini restaurant. It hasn’t been around for that long.

And we can not not mention the new Eglinton Way arch at Chaplin and Eglinton.

Now, the dog in the first statue seems like he’s up to something. What are YOU up to?
