A beautiful Sunday afternoon. Not yet November. Not October anymore.

I just got out of the new “palace” we’ve rented in this beautiful neighbourhood, to go and order Pizza from Ferraro and get something from the convenience store.

It’s Halloween, and if kids come, I don’t have any treats for them. But I’ll stop by Shoppers first, across the building we left a year and a month ago to go live somewhere else for one year.

It turns out some new shops have opened while others closed.

That said, the vibe’s the same. I’m originally from Eastern Europe. Born and lived for 30 years in Romania’s capital, Bucharest. City boy. Downtown to be more specific, and this area and the houses around here – including the one we are renting now – remind me of home.

The same type of house my friends and I grew up in, where the floor cracks. But also where you know all your neighbours. The rooms are large enough to fill with all the crap you have – and boy, do we have a lot.

What was the alternative?

I have four neighbours, while others have 400 🙂 I put my shoes on, get out of the door, and in 30 seconds I’m on Eglinton, in front of Starbucks, across Bucharest Tailor – a place I’ve never gone in, although I probably will soon since I have some suits that need adjusting.

No waiting on the elevator, no walking to the car, take it to go to the convenience/store/ANYTHING because I have EVERYTHING at a walking distance here.

And the walk is so pleasant.

Like the house I grew up in, the subway (supposedly, because it’s not running yet) will pass underneath it. Back home, you could tell when the subway passed. The entire house shook. I’m expecting this to happen here as well.

Despite all its constructions, Eglinton and Forest Hill is what I love the most about Toronto because it’s my new home that reminds me of back home.

I always like to give back to the community, and you can consider this project my small tribute to this lovely neighbourhood. I hope I can make a significant impact.

There’s a chance you might see me walking by now that I’m back in the neighbourhood.

Let’s tell its story. Let’s tell our story.
